The unfair advantage no one talks about

Hey there

Ever notice how some applicants effortlessly score multiple internships and vacation schemes, while others seem to be struggling for years?

Itā€™s not dedication, talent, or intelligence. It isnā€™t that one applicant wants it more than the other.

The real advantage comes from knowing the right insightsā€”and how to make use of them.

This week, on Thursday, April 3, weā€™re hosting an exclusive insider session with a legal graduate recruiter with years of experience at Herbert Smith Freehills and other top international firms.

Sheā€™s reviewed thousands of applications, and now sheā€™ll share exactly what worksā€”and what doesnā€™t.

So if you donā€™t want to miss on:

  • What employers are really seeking

  • How to write applications that pass

  • Strategies to ace the entire process

*This is your last chance to register for this event.

Why do we keep messing with our clocks twice a year?

The idea of making the most of summer daylight goes back to 1784, when Benjamin Franklin joked that people could save on candles by rising earlier.

Then came William Willett in 1907. Annoyed by people ā€œsleeping throughā€ bright mornings, he self-published The Waste of Daylight and lobbied Parliament. His plan faced fierce opposition and never became law during his lifetime.

Everything changed in 1916, during the First World War. Germany moved the clocks to save coal, and the UK followed suit with the Summer Time Act of 1916. In those days, the shift ran from May 21 to October 1.

In 1972, another British Summer Time Act introduced the familiar routineā€”spring forward in late March, fall back in late October.

Some argue scrapping clock changes would help the economyā€”others believe itā€™s sticking with them that brings the benefits.
