Happy Lunar Year!

Do you know the story behind the Lunar Zodiac?

The story goes that Jade Emperor, one of the most important Chinese gods, wanted to devise a way of measuring time, so he organised a race.

He invited all animals to take part, but only 12 species turned up.

The animals who would make it across a river would earn a spot on the zodiac calendar in the order they arrived:

  1. The Rat used its cunning to ride on the Ox and leap over the finish line first.

  2. The Ox, steady and strong, finished second after being outsmarted by the Rat.

  3. The Tiger, powerful and brave, overcame obstacles to claim third place.

  4. The Rabbit cleverly hopped across a river to finish fourth.

  5. The Dragon, noble and helpful, prioritised aiding others over winning, finishing fifth.

  6. The Snake stealthily secured sixth place by surprising the Horse.

  7. The Horse, strong and fast, ended up seventh after the Snake's sudden appearance.

  8. The Goat, Monkey, and Rooster collaborated to overcome challenges, finishing eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

  9. The Dog, playful and loyal, was distracted and finished eleventh.

  10. The Pig, indulging in food and rest, concluded the race in twelfth place.
